Patatas Bravas - Delicious Potatoes Spanish Way

Hello friends,

Here is my first entry for my event A.W.E.D. - Spain started by DK. I was looking for something to prepare which would become my family favorite and here is the perfect recipe.

They are a type of Tapas, which means appetizer in Spanish. These little potatoes are probably the most traditional tapas food in Spain. They can be found almost everywhere. These are mostly served as one of the most common bar snack.

When I was looking for this recipe, I found various recipes, so I just kind of combined a few and made my own version of this potato recipe.

Patatas Bravas

Ingredient
For Patatas
Potatoes - 3 medium sized potatoes, diced/cubed (it came about 2.5 cups)
Salt - as per taste
Oil - for shallow frying
For Bravas
Onion - 1/2 cup, finely chopped
Tomato - 1 cup, finely chopped
Garlic - 3 big cloves, minced
Cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp
Cayenne Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
Salt - as per taste
Oil - 1 tbsp
Water - 1/2 cup
Preparation

For Patatas
  • Take a pan in a water. Let it boil.
  • Add the diced potatoes and salt and let them get half cooked.
  • Now, take some oil in a wide non stick pan and shallow fry the cubes till golden brown.
For Bravas
  • Take a pan, add oil.
  • Add onions and garlic let them fry till onion becomes translucent.
  • Add tomatoes and both the powders and mix well.
  • Add water and cook till tomatoes get all mushy.
  • Let it cool slightly and grind everything smoothly.

Serving
Take patatas in a plate and pour little bravas on top and serve them as an appetizer. If you want to, you can mix them up as well or let your guests mix them as they want.

That's all for now. Take care till next post.

Hey Priya.. nice to see you experimenting with Spanish cuisine!

I have a question, the patatas are half cooked in salt + boiling water. Do you shallow fry them after that in some oil? They look brownish in the pic. Maybe I missed in the text whether you fry them after being half cooked. (I will check back for a reply here later!) :)
