Giveaway I won and the Gifts I Received

Hello Friends,

Today I am here with a non-recipe post. Many of you may know that I had won Giveaway @ Creative Sanyukta's Bloggy Birthday a few weeks ago.

I received my precious and most awaiting gifts with a lovely note from Sana over the weekend. Thank you so much Sana, I love you. I am going to enjoy them. They are really sharp knives but with their own cases, so that is neat and color is what I always love in them instead of same old boring black or silver knives. Amazing looking wooden board too, I have recently started loving wooden boards. I had received from my dear friend Anu when we met for a blogger's meet and now this one, so I am a happy person when it comes to cutting :)

That's all for now. Take care till next post.

Bragging about few awards, some tags and celebrating # of followers

Hello friends,

This post has been in my drafts forever. I want to firstly apologize to everyone who shared an award or gift with me and I could not post it. I just had some bad and some worse days in last couple of weeks. Let's leave it to that. It is better late than never, right?

So, here I am ready to brag about it :)

Thanks SavithaAkila and Kavitha for sharing this award with me. Isn't that a really Stylish award. I feel so good with this. It lifted my spirits right up :)

Vanessa and Sonu shared this nice lovely award with me. Thanks dears, I feel honored :)

Now, here is the last but not the least award from Aipi, who shared this award with me for participating Veggie/Fruit A Month event.

Now, I have to tell I have been tagged by not one or two but 7 of my dear bloggers - Malar, Priya, Savitha, Shobha, Jagruti, Kurinji and Dr. Sameena. I feel so blessed to be remembered and tagged by so many of my dear virtual friends. Thanks everyone. A few set of tags, so be patient and here are the questions and answers.

Set 1

1. What is your take on organic food , is it a big deal for you ?
Not really. If I can get my hands on organic food for cheap, I will go for it. If not, I am ok with regular food. I do try to get organic milk for sure for my kiddos.

2. Do you time your breakfast, lunch & dinner or eat when you are hungry ?
I try to time it as much as possible as I believe in routine. But, yep, when we needed, we also hear to our tummies and eat if we are hungry :)

3. What inspired you to write a food blog ?
I used to look for new Rajasthani Recipes as I am sure many of you know by now that I am born Andhrite (born and raised in North India though) but married to a Rajasthani guy and wanted to cook his kind of food (though I cook 99% north Indian cuisine due to how I was raised). But, when I used to look for recipe, I never found a lot of options, so started my own blog and with my SIL's help, learnt recipes and now sharing with you all.

4. You try a new recipe and it does not turn out good, what will you do ?
My first thought will be to see if I can do something to make it good (after following the recipe and not have a good result). If it is totally inedible, of course it goes down the drain.

5. Name three ingredients you consciously avoid or eliminate even when the recipe calls for it ?
I don't think I have anything like this. I try to use the exact recipe and I substitute only if I don't have it, not because I don't like it.

6. Name three things you have to use in most recipes ?
Onions, Tomatoes and Garlic (My mom and SIL tell me that I practically cannot cook without these)... lol

7. How important is eating meals together as a family to you?
It is important, and so far thankfully it hasn't happened that we ever had to eat without everyone being present. So, so far, so good. But, I wouldn't stay till midnight or not eat if my family is not with me... know what I mean... (wink, wink).

8. You do not like a particular dish at your favorite restaurant, what will you do ?
I will not order (if I know in advance). If I ordered and then realize it is not good, I will not eat and surely make a point to let the chef know what it lacks.

Set 2

1. Are you a vegetarian, or have you thought about being one?
Yes, I am a vegetarian, I eat eggs only if used in baking.

2. Who inspired you to cook or bake?
I think it was more of a necessity than inspiration after marriage... lol

3. How do you celebrate Christmas?...or a favorite holiday of your choice?
Don't all our favorite holidays celebrated the same way. I like to wear festive traditional clothes and make lots of goodies and enjoy them with friends and family.

4. Do you prefer to celebrate New Year's Eve with friends and/or family, or prefer to ring in the New Year quietly, and privately, at home?
I like to celebrate it with friends and family. I hate staying alone.

5. If someone were to ask you to bring dessert to a party, what would you bring? Store bought, or homemade, and if you were to make homemade, what would you make?
It depends on what kind of party it is. I like cooking Indian desserts a lot and also now venturing into Western desserts. One thing is sure, I would like to make one instead of store-bought, if I can.

6. How will you celebrate your next birthday?
Not sure yet.

7. Do you have a New Year's resolution-and will you be sticking to it?
I try not to make resolutions and only make goals for next years and I will try to work towards achieving them :)

OK, now here are my set of 8 questions, followed by the friends I am tagging. Go ahead and answer them guys :)

1. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
2. Who is your best critique for cooking?
3. What is your favorite food? If you one in each category, please mention.
4. What are some of the foods that has amazed you in someone else's blog? Name 2 to 3 with links, if possible.
5. Who is your inspiration in blog world or who do you look upto ro want to be like (any specific blog)?
6. Would you prefer a cold sandwich and sald or a hot panini and warm soup for lunch?
7. Are you obsessed about anything when it comes to food, may be a process or igredient that you have to use or love to use?
8. Have you ever thought about or approached by or tried for cooking something up for a TV or a newspaper? Would you like to do so, if not done already?

I am tagging the following fellow-bloggers with the above set of questions. Go ahead and answer them guys and pass them on to 8 more bloggers with either the same set of questions or prepare a new set :)

1. Reshmi from Rasoi
2. Revathi Madan from Kaarasaaram
3. Susan from The Well Seasoned Cook
4. Roshan from Roshan's Cucina
5. Pushpa from Taste As You Cook

After a long time, it is again award time in my blog.

First of all, is a sweet award shared from Akheela. Thank you so much Akheela, I love you for hosting the very second edition of my event and love your variety and simplicity of recipes.

I am supposed to share it with 3 blogger friends and share what I specially like about them. I have soooooooooo many blogger friends, it is very difficult to select just 3 out of those many. Let me see if I can do justice to that.

Coconut Milk Vegetable Rice Pilaf and an award

Hello friends,

Here is what we just had for lunch. An amazing and rich looking recipe that I had bookmarked a while ago from Ruchika Cooks. Today was the day when I prepared it finally. It is called Coconut Milk Vegetable Rice Pilaf. I don't think the picture does justice to how rich and literally creamy (as creamy a rice dish can be) it was. I have never cooked rice with coconut milk. For that matter, I have only cooked once before with coconut milk, so don't have much experience.

Coconut Milk Vegetable Rice Pilaf

Ingredients
White Rice - 1 cup (wash and soak in water for about 10 min.)
Coconut Milk - 3 cups (I used canned version)
Onion - 1 cup, finely chopped
Mixed veggies - 1 cup (I used frozen)
Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
Green Chillies - 4 slit in the middle (not all the way, just half way)
Bay Leaf - 2 small leaves
Cinnamon - 2 small pieces
Black Cardamom - 1
Cloves - 4-5
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Salt - as per taste
Oil - 1 tbsp
Preparation

  • Take a pan and add oil to it.
  • Once oil is hot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon, black cardamom, cloves to it.
  • When nice aroma starts coming from it, add ginger and garlic and fry for 30 seconds.
  • Add onion and green chillies to it and fry till it is translucent.
  • Add veggies and fry for 2-3 min.
  • Add drained rice to it along with salt and fry for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Now, transfer this to a cooker (if using rice cooker or pressure cooker) and add coconut milk, mix well and cook till rice is well done.

Serving
This can be served with a nice spicy side dish as the rice is not very spicy by itself. My son had it just like that as it was just perfect for him and I had it with mouth watering spicy zucchini chutney given to me by a very dear friend of mine. I will be posting that recipe very soon.

The only thing I changed from this dish was I added 2 cups coconut milk and 1 cup water (as I ran out of it), but just because of this change, I am sending this to Blog Bites: Adaptation event of Nupur.

I am so happy to tell that SS has shared a wonderful award with me and I need to share my favorite pic for this. Thanks you very much to think of me and sharing this with me. I would like to in turn share this with all my blogger friends who visit and encourage me every day :)

I have  many favorite pics, but here is one of the best. It's that of Lake Tahoe from an elevation.

That's all for now. Take care till next post.

Bragging about the award

Hello friends,

I got this beautiful and delicious award from Divya. Thanks Divya for thinking of me and passing this award to me :)
